A charm for every patronus and totem animal

Lisette Fee

You truly bless me with the best ideas, and I can’t ever stop talking about it!

Back in October when I did a market in Charlotte I met a super creative entrepreneur, Jesse Titus of Block Benefits. He requested a thick cable link chain with some of my classic charms. At first I wasn’t feeling this idea, I wasn’t sure it would work.

Well lo and behold, I became a BIG fan of this style/idea! And here it is as modeled on me in sterling silver. Jesse requested an 18kt gold plated charm link chain. I LOVE both styles.

Here I am in my studio modeling the silver chain with my new favorite outfit - leather harness with a velvet dress!

This necklace also looks great with the Crab claw charm necklace.

Serving FACE, jk but I do love getting all gussied up for a night out in my jewelry.

And here’s the 18kt gold plated chain with the squirrel bone charm, bear claw charm, owl talon, badger claw and crow claw.

It just goes to show that it’s best to be open to new ideas and styles because it truly can amplify what is already cool.

Thanks for reading and PLEASE do not hesitate to reach out and let me know what thoughts and ideas you have.

Eilisain Tarot

Lisette Fee

You could probably see the writing on the wall. As much as I write and talk about tarot it was inevitable that I’d create a tarot deck. So here is your sneak preview!

And I almost can’t believe it’s happening!!!! Back fourteen years ago when I began my jewelry journey I tried to create jewelry that referenced tarot however I couldn’t really figure out how.

Cue to now and I’m creating my own deck. At the beginning of the year I set about working on this project and I had absolutely no clue HOW. If you follow ‘manifestation’ they always urge you to forget about the HOW and to trust in the universe. Well I did and let me tell you this happened way faster than I thought it would and I have to give most of the credit to my friend and assistant Victoria Schultz.

If you recall Victoria began working with me three years ago during the pandemic. Victoria has been my angel, my right hand woman. Victoria took this project and RAN with it, she knows the Eilisain brand so well and she nailed the graphics and look.

In late April and just last month we shot images of me with our sample tarot deck. These are the major arcana cards, with several of the minor cards.

We organized the deck with each suite corresponding to an Eilisain Jewelry collection, so Wands/Fire = snake, Swords/air = owl, Cups/water = Cuttlefish jewels and Pentacles/earth = Turtle.

Each jewelry collection features jewels and photos that easily correspond to the tarot and the messages we receive from each card. This has always been my intention, to meld the divine/spiritual with jewelry. The messages are intertwined.

This year I truly embraced reading tarot and the opportunity to intuit and attune myself to how I can assist you in your daily life and inquiries.

So to wrap this up, Eilisain Tarot will drop in late Fall of this year - perfect for this spooky season. In addition Eilisain jewelry will transition over to a new website that will provide jewelry AND tarot.

I’m just SO thrilled and excited to share this with you!! Stay tuned by signing up for my email list so you can purchase your deck as soon as it drops!

Featuring YOU and how you style your Eilisain Jewelry jewels

Lisette Fee

You, YOU are the reason I make my jewelry. To get you in touch with your badass side and to become closer to animals that inspire us.

Below are some new photos of you out and about wearing your Eilisain Jewels.

It was a complete surprise when I ran into this gorgeous lady out and about in Raleigh wearing her bird bone bracelet and Medea snake cuff. She looks so cute in her Santa cape too!

Kristen Hardee, is a G-Vegas local and she’s also an artist, student, mom and friend wearing her Hunted small double owl talon pendant in sterling silver.

Allison Goldfine, a magician in my eyes, this woman is a beautiful human being that is multifaceted. She’s also an artist, a hair stylist, model and multi dimensional human being. Allison is wearing the Keeper II turtle shell ring with garnets.

It truly makes my heart sing to see you wearing my creations. Thank you so much to all of you that love and support my small business. I love ya’ll!!

PS - Permission was granted to share these photos.

Friends are the key to happiness and Eilisain Jewelry

Lisette Fee

Earlier this month I celebrated ten years in business and I truly felt like a queen and honored as if it was my birthday. All my closest and dearest friends in Eastern North Carolina came out and I felt so BLESSED!

How did I end up with such a supportive group of friends? I’m not sure but I count myself lucky because I’ve worked with these beautiful people since I started Eilisain at Art Avenue back in 2012 in Uptown Greenville.

Let me tell you that a small business growing does not happen in a vacuum, it happens with connections, relationships and care for these relationships.

From left to right: Aileen Devlin (my favorite photographer), Nikki Lee Dixon (sexy model and friend), me, Khristi Dixon (I mean, what a HOT couple - both models might I add), Janie Askew (talented artist & stylist) and Claire Edwards (my bestie and biggest supporter).

My dear friend Sim Asher (and also photographer for the Momentary Myth collection) snapped these photos and I’m so grateful he was able to capture the joy and celebration.

Here’s a little throwback story, it’s early 2012 and I had wanted to get professional lifestyle photos of my jewelry and I didn’t know that many people yet in Greenville, so I reached out to Sim and he connected me with all the beautiful people you see above. You see Sim, well he’s practically an honorary mayor of Uptown Greenville. Sim knows EVERYONE. And he’s alot of fun so it did help to connect with Sim Asher.

Claire Edwards and I cheesin’

Claire Edwards is special to me in that she was the gateway to having a studio space to create my jewelry at Art Avenue.. Art Avenue was the brainchild of Claire and our friend Sarah Setzco. They wanted a space to nurture artists from East Carolina University art school. Myself and a group of other artists which included Aileen Devlin, Jeremy Fineman, Andy Denton, Autumn Brown and Sim Asher organized and rallied with Claire and Sarah to support the space for live music, art and more. It was a big dream that I believed in and it was critical to the success of my business.

Thus my relationship with Claire was friendly in 2012 but we’ve grown closer and I count her as one of my closest friends whom was there with me from the beginning of Eilisain Jewelry.

Kristie King, one of my mentors and dear friend

Sid and Aileen (another hot couple)

My amazing husband, Bobby Pittman and my friend Jett Harrell.

Celebrating ten years gave me perspective and incredible gratitude for my friends and community. Building relationships with my friends and customers has created lasting bonds and memories that I cherish.

When I sell a piece of jewelry it is created with incredible intention, love and care. When I sell to you I am not a factory but a person that has made jewelry from a part of our world, part of our history and story.

If you love the feeling you get reading this OR you want to keep up to date with Eilisain, join my email list.

Momboss update - the toddler years are incredible

Lisette Fee

At the Mucha exhibit in early January at the North Carolina Museum of Art

Oh hey, it’s me over here working part time in my studio and caring for our intrepid and curious 4.5 year old. Tallulah is growing like a sassy little weed and I love it! It’s been some time since I’ve given ya’ll an update on what it’s like raising Tallulah AND balancing an at home jewelry business.

it’s SO challenging and exhausting and precious, so, SOOOO precious. I know that I will look back on these years with yearning and fondness. She is easy to be with most of the time but she also has her tantrums and I have mine. I’m learning patience and presence which are both big lessons.

To give you an idea of our schedule Tallulah is in preschool half the day and she’s at home the other half, my father in law watches her two afternoons a week and then I work one day on the weekend.

This schedule is very tight, for me, meaning that within three hours everyday I squeeze in studio time, computer/marketing/advertising time along with replying to emails, cleaning up the house. And even within those three hours sometimes I schedule doctors appointments or meetings.

Just like with you the hours - every hour - is precious. My sanity and my self care is precious as well. I don’t know about you but within these pandemic years I’ve taken a big OVERALL look on my life and how I spend my time.

Ice cream is a weekly activity we enjoy in our small town of Farmville.

With Tallulah’s baby years gone, I’m recognizing even more that now I must be completely PRESENT with her, watch her grow and learn as well as look less at my phone or obsess over my next Instagram post or reel.

Of course, social media and internet has been a HUGE blessing for my business however I’ve been experiencing burnout and the consequences are real. So when I get time with Tallulah I try really hard to be there for her instead of wandering off to my phone.

Okay so here are some of the FUN activities we do. I’ve taught Tallulah how to rider her bike, so we bike ride to school in the morning, she knows how use the potty on her own, she’s learning some new Spanish words and she’s OBSESSED with slime and play-doh.

Tallulah has her own crafting room and her favorite medium is GLITTER….so there is glitter in every knook and cranny of this house. I’ve even busted out my old gem beads for her to craft her own jewelry. She really loves doing that. And I think one of my new favorite traditions is having Tallulah deliver jewels to some of my local customers.

Whenever Tallulah is at the table, so is Lady Shadow Cookies.

All in all being Tallulah’s primary caretaker is a role I take joyously, the sacrifices we’ve made for that means so much more. Being a mom has made me a more patient and aware human being, I have this immense gratitude for the life I had as a young human and the work my parents put into my life.

I hope you’ve enjoyed this post and update. I am INCREDIBLY GRATEFUL TO YOU for watching me grow and evolve as a mother.

Ten years I've been in business, here's a look back

Lisette Fee

Ya’ll WHAT! WHAT & HOW have ten years in business gone by?! I remember, in 2012 sitting at my desk planning for what my business would look like in ten years and it felt so far away. Time is like that, a construct we create to manage life on earth. Okay I won’t get all esoteric but seriously!

So I’m going BIG on this anniversary because to be quite honest I’m in awe and surprised at myself. No one truly prepares you for what it’s like to go into business for yourself, it is BRUTAL. Being an entrepreneur means a mirror is held up at you at all times because there is no one but yourself to hold yourself responsible.

But it’s super rewarding and absolutely gratifying to be in the driver’s seat of your own destiny and business. And once my husband and I were ready to start our family, it became so seamless to raise our daughter while also running Eilisain, perhaps not ideal but I have truly loved being home with our daughter especially now.

With that said, here’s some photos of me back in 2013 at Art Avenue, trying to look SO boss! lol, what strikes me as funny is that I had ABSOLUTELY no clue what I was doing, just doing my best.

Anywho, let’s get back to the FUN part. Ten years ago I graduated from East Carolina University and promptly moved my jewelers bench to a co-op studio in Uptown Greenville, NC. It was one of the best experiences of my life, I never thought that I’d get to share the experience and support of beginning my business if it hadn’t be for Art Avenue. Because once Art Avenue closed in 2016 my husband and I moved into a house in which I could have my own studio.

Over the years I’ve been blessed to hire interns and assistants that helped me along the way. My second intern, Ashton is here with me in my small studio. It was tight and cozy and I loved it.

I want to go back a bit further though, back in 2007, when I was working full time in Washington, D.C. I DREAMED of this life I have now. I dreamed of a family and working in my studio creating and making. At that time, I was working a desk job and it was not suited for me. I got easily distracted and pretty much doodled jewelry designs in meetings.

My old bench in school at East Carolina University.

So when I look at my life here & now, I’m so GRATEFUL for the chance I took, for the risk. That’s what I want you to take away from my 10 year anniversary. YOU CAN FOLLOW YOUR DREAMS, you just have to believe in them with every fiber of your being.

Badass bossbabe Kelly Boutilier wearing the Hunted badger claw pendant.

And let me say, that my journey is your journey, of discovery and curiosity and wonder for animals. Thank you for joining me on this journey. THANK YOU for supporting me, sharing Eilisain Jewelry, sharing YOUR story.

So if you live in the Greenville NC area, please come and celebrate with me. Safely of course, with masks and loads of hand sanitizer. Join me for a party of jewelry and badassery!

You Wore it Best...How Eilisain Customers Style Their Jewels

Lisette Fee

Here’s an update on how you style your Eilisain jewels. There were so many good ones from this holiday season (aka Halloween).

I really love seeing how you wear your jewels because it shows them in real life on REAL humans.

My friend Allison is dressed as the Goblin King (yesssss!) wearing her moonstone and badger claw pendant.

Below is my friend Rosie and her wild cat with the owl talon earrings. Rosie and I went to ECU together and she works with animals at home and work. She is such a badass.

My friend Katie is Medusa and how absolutely appropriate is it that she’s wearing several Medea pieces? Katie is a badass as well, she has gone thru the fire and back and I’m so lucky to call her a friend.

How fabulous is this lady and her red nails with the rose gold plated Hunted owl talon arch ring? It looks so good on her! I met this lady and the silver fox below in Norfolk at the New Moon Market last weekend. I always have such a good time when I do shows in Norfolk.

I truly LOVE photos of YOU in your jewels. You are a badass and you should show it off!

thank you as always for reading and popping on by!

That old banana peel is worth gold

Lisette Fee

eilisainjewelry.jpg

I got your attention didn’t I? Ha, seriously though banana peels, egg shells, leftover food gone bad is literal GOLD to your yard and garden beds.

Composting has become somewhat of a fascination for me, for some reason I enjoying mixing rotting food with dirt! lol okay so I’ll get down to the nitty gritty, composting is absolutely the BIGGEST thing you can do to help the environment. Why? Here are some incredible facts about food waste:

  • Waste costs big money, approximately $55 per ton in 2019 and the U.S. generates more than 267 million tons!! That’s alot of money and waste that we could save. (source NRDC)

  • Food & scrape waste makes up more than 28% of what we throw away. That is a high percentage that we can cut down on.

  • Composting greatly improves our soil by putting back much needed elements back into the ground such as nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium.

  • Helps retain water, each 1% of increase in soil organic matter helps soil retain 20,000 gallons of water per acre.

With all that being said, when we all take this action as a collective it can have HUGE implications for our community, state and country. For example San Francisco began a city wide composting program in 1996, and as of the year 2000 San Francisco was able to divert 50% of waste from landfills and by 2012 it had increased this and now 80% of waste has been diverted from landfills. How incredible is that?

Okay so composting is good and all but HOW DO YOU COMPOST? I honestly had no clue until my inlaws gave us several buckets, we created a garden bed, dug up dirt and VOILA, we have a composting system. There are many different ways to compost but I’m going to give you the bare bones EASIEST way to do it.

  1. Purchase a kitchen counter compost bin. Usually they’re steel or ceramic and can be purchased online or maybe your local hardware store.

  2. Purchase 3 large bins (we got ours from Lowe’s)

  3. Create a garden bed, it can be whatever size you like, we have a longer one, any raised bed will do.

  4. Fill your garden bed with dirt and plant something

Now that you have all the se steps in place you can begin composting. And there are a couple things to keep in mind on what you can compost:

  • Food scraps with the exception of bones, meat or dairy (these attract animals and it’s not meant to be composted)

  • Layer your food scraps with dirt. at the bottom of your bin have a small layer of dirt, then food scraps & then dirt or straw

eilisainjewelry.png

Now isn’t that simple? It does require a little bit of elbow grease and it’s totally worth it when we do this individually and collectively. Plus, that compost dirt is super rich and beneficial for your garden. You’ll love getting dirty and connecting with our Mother Earth - she gives us so much, it’s the least we can do.

I hope you enjoyed this post, I want to share with you my methods of centering your mind & heart and ways to ground you.

Momboss Journey - Toddler time

Lisette Fee

Blog Post Covers Pt 2.png

Tallulah will officially be 4 years old on March 26th and goodness does time fly quickly, I seriously didn’t think it’d be this fast. I’m holding so tight to her little self before she grows into a tween!

I’ll also be 42 years old this coming weekend and as I come into this journey of my 40’s I have a BIG appreciation for time. We can never get back time, so each moment is truly a gift even if it may be a shitty moment!

Tallulah has now been in preschool for under a year, even during this pandemic, and she’s grown incredibly. I’ve learned to let go and ease up on my own structure around time. With set scheduled days of when I can work in my studio I structure my ‘off’ days with Tallulah around playing outside, reading tarot cards or painting. Lots and lots of painting!

_U9B2266.jpg

What surprises me about watching Tallulah grow is how much I am reflecting on my own youth, what I remember and how it must’ve been for my mother, raising me. Parenthood teaches us so much about ourselves and who we are.

New Lessons during the toddler years:

  • Acknowledging emotions and allowing them to be felt. When my daughter is frustrated or angry I try to remember to pause and see what it is. Pausing is HUGE for both of us.

  • Water or going outside cures just about any tantrum. I never realized that until I read it on a moms FB group. The best advice EVER.

  • I allow my daughter to paint nearly anything within reason. What can I say, it gives her the best satisfaction to paint rocks.

I can tell you that raising a toddler has given me a whole new set of ways to communicate with an authoritative little person, and these tips can honestly help anyone get thru life.

Empowering Yourself Through Ritual

Lisette Fee

I have been stuck lately, for all my posts of goals and intentions, staying consistent can be hard. Especially when there is uncertainty and a global pandemic. But one thing that brings me back to the present, and out of my anxiety is ritual.

We humans are hard wired for routines and consistent actions, just think about it, when your routine gets thrown off or around the holidays we get excited for hanging up decorations there is a beautiful ritual that marks the beginning of a season.

Ritual also grounds us in the present and allows our brain to associate an action with a feeling. So how does ritual empower you? Ritual brings awareness to our action. I have a ritual, as do most parents, of reading a book to our children before bed. What does this do, this brings calm and a way for children to settle down from a long day and it empowers children to feel safe & secure.

My ritual of writing out my plans for the day empowers me to feel a sense of control and direction. We need this especially right now, where so much is out of our control.

Take some time now to think about the rituals you do daily, and consider new rituals that will empower you to achieve balance, sanity and focus.

My all time favorite ritual is my morning routine, I move my body for about 15 minutes, I thank my body and then I move on to meditation, prayer, mirror work (hyping myself up for the day) and then I journal and read a tarot card.

And look, there are days when I just want to lay in my bed longer, however this one simple routine/ritual has had immense ripple effects in my life. I’m much more calm, full of gratitude AND more importantly I feel empowered.

If you’d like to stay in touch and learn more methods for bringing intention, curiosity and joy in your life, follow along and join the Eilisain list. Click the link below my dears, and thank you as always for reading!

Winter Reading List

Lisette Fee

eilisainjewelry.jpg

Here’s your recommended reading list from a bibliophile. Reading is so lovely in the winder as its the perfect excuse to lay in bed longer!

  1. Help Yourself - A Guide to Gut Health for People Who Love Delicious Food by Lindsay Maitland Hunt. I randomly picked up this cookbook at my local library and I love Lindsay’s honesty with her own struggles and all the research she did on gut health. I’ve already tried the pickled shallots and I’m working on several more. You will learn so much reading this book, and maybe change some eating habits.

  2. The Once and Future Witches by Alix E. Harrow - Another fun find at the library, although dense this book satisfied my craving for a fantasy filled story. Three sisters with magic in their blood. They rise up with fellow feminists and witches against an old and sexist male witch. I really love how Harrow weaved children’s rhymes as spells and ancient words. It was a long read but such a perfect escapist book.

  3. Badass Habits by Jen Sincero - I loved Sincero’s first book, You Are A Badass and this book takes it to the next level with a 21 day challenge. Jen is so honest and raw about her own struggles, plus she’s funny! I’ve been applying her methods of rewards for good habits but also repeating my mantra daily. This book will inspire you to look at what you do on a daily basis and perhaps make some changes.

  4. How to be An Antiracist by Ibram X. Kendi - I am an ally and in being one to BLM (Black Lives Matter), feminism and LGBTQ+ and in being one I also want to educate myself on antiracism. Kendi is very thorough in his research, going back to the first instance of racism. I also appreciate his honesty in his own journey of antiracist work. You’ll not only get a thorough education on our American history but how racism has evolved and how you can be a part of the change to dismantle it.

5 Things I'm REALLY Into Right Now

Lisette Fee

eilisainjewelry.jpg

Since many of us are home, alot more than usual, we’re consuming more books, television and outdoor activities. Thus I thought I’d share with you some of the things I’m REALLY into. I put emphasis on REALLY because I’m kinda obsessed with them. Here goes!

  1. DUNE - I actually got into the Dune series several years ago. I began watching Comicbookgirl19 (now Danikxix) on Youbtube when she did a book club. I hadn’t even read the book yet I wanted to learn more. Now that Dune, the second release of the movie version is set to release this winter it’s gaining even more popularity. What I love about Dune is that the characters rely on their own intelligence, intuition and guidance. There is SO much in Dune, politics, mysticism, religion.

  2. Mushrooms - Blame it on my friend Judy but ‘schrooms are making a BIG comeback. Foraging has become a weekend adventure of searching for herbs and edible mushrooms. I believe mushrooms could save us, they’re incredible. They can literally breakdown trash and create new lifeforms.

  3. My Octopus Friend - I’ve been raving about this documentary since I watched it earlier in the month. A film editor and videographer moves back to the the Southern coast of South Africa and goes diving for fun (all without a wet suit) and he begins following an octopus. It’s such a beautiful amazing story of the connections we make with animals.

  4. Teatime - Okay this is all my daughter’s fault. She ADORES our tea time ritual; pouring the milk and all the fun stuff. There is a wonderful ‘pause’ in teatime. We sit, drink tea and chat. We do this all of course in a British accent! My new favorite tea of the moment is Magic Hour, it’s amazing and they’re packaging is to die for!

  5. Magazines - I’ve always been kinda obsessed with magazines, it all started with Sassy magazine. Now i”m super into home decor’zines like House Beautiful, HGTV magazine, Oprah, Good Housekeeping. I especially enjoy magazines because it’s a perfect way to zone out but NOT on my phone.

Now more than ever I believe it’s SO good for your soul to find activities that allow your mind + body to unwind. Finding special moments throughout the day to connect, be still and enjoy an activity is super good for you!

Getting My Hands Dirty Heals My Spirit

Lisette Fee

Dang ya’ll if 2020 isn’t the year for a revolution I don’t know when it would be! I bet many of you have been feeling a big mixed bag of emotions and you’re not alone. I have good days and bad days but in the center of it all is my home and that I can control.

Several weeks ago I had my friend, fellow momboss and photographer Erica Letchworth come to my home, at a safe distance to photograph me for all things Eilisain but most importantly the spaces where I find refuge and solace.

GARDEN is no. 1 - watching my plants grow and turn into edible food is incredible and not just that, the sacred act of consuming my own home grown vegetables is even more special. When I go out to our garden to gather some herbs for our meal or for my cleansing wands I thank them, i thank the earth for her nutrition and her sustenance. The simple act of thanking plants returns the kindness, the gratitude and appreciation for their incredible nutrition.

If you can or if you have the inclination, go out and purchase herbs and keep them in pots on your porch or deck. Research and studies have proven that being in the presence of plant life gives you energy and vitality. Not only that, caring for your plants will give you an excuse to put your phone down, get outside and take your mind off everything going on in the world.

Oh and one other point I want to make about our garden, we’ve been using our compost as a way to return what we consume back to the earth. We’ve been blessed to access dirt from my in-laws but you can easily do the same, even if it’s a small raised garden bed. Returning your scraps to the earth is SO beneficial for our planet.

eilisainjewelry.jpg
eilisainjewelry.jpg

My biggest piece of advice and suggestion for you to gain clarity, peace of mind and serenity is to be with yourself. Take time to do nothing! Some nights before I turn out the light to sleep I just lay there thinking and ruminating, passing over what happened throughout the day and reflecting. This gives me time to appreciate the beautiful moments, the quiet moments that make up the collective of our life. And my last ritual for the night, I write down three things I’m grateful for and then I pull a tarot card. Again, reflecting on the abundance in my life and then divining a message from Spirit gives me space to honor the sacred in myself.

eilisainjewelry.jpg

Witch in her garden (6).jpg

I want to return to what I wrote at the beginning of this post regarding how much in chaos our world is, now my first inclination always is to bury my head in the sand but only momentarily. I know that my life comes with immense privilege and access to way more abundance than many other Americans experience (especially black and brown Americans).

With that said I’m not going to side step the huge revolution our country is going through. Every SINGLE ONE OF US (especially white folks) must participate in order for progress to occur.

What can you do? Here are some steps:

-Read and understand what Black Lives Matter means and what it means to our collective.

-Contact your state and local representatives. Tell them you want change and action.

-Read, listen, purchase and consume African American literature, products, music, podcasts, movies - EDUCATE YOURSELF

-Talk to your neighbors and friends. Be open minded and LISTEN. (I’ll raise my hand that I do this often but I am not that good at listening, I’m working on that one)

-Make a donation if you can, I’m donating 10% of June’s sales to the Minnesota Freedom Fund. Every little bit helps, even if it’s $10.
